Shayne Jones

Graduate Clinical Intern (MSW Candidate, June 2026)

I’m Shayne, a graduate clinical intern at Shoreview Psychotherapy. I’m currently completing my Master of Social Work at the University of Washington–Seattle and provide therapy under the supervision of Samantha Gibb, LICSW. My specialties include clients of all genders who have experienced religious trauma especially those who are Christian or Latter Day Saint, those who are neurodivergent including those with ADHD and/or autism, and with male survivors of domestic and/or intimate partner violence. I am queer, trans, poly, and kink aligned and affirming within my practice

My Story

I have worked in the social work field for many years across a range of roles and settings. What began as teaching swim lessons to adaptive children evolved into work at residential treatment centers, city organizations serving children and youth, and nonprofit agencies addressing houselessness, neurodivergence, and behavioral health needs. During the COVID pandemic, I worked closely with young adults, which clarified my desire to continue growing in the field through advanced clinical training. After my first term back in school, I realized I wanted to become a therapist, which led me to where I am now.

Clinical Background

My professional experience includes work in residential treatment settings, city based youth programs, and nonprofit organizations supporting individuals impacted by houselessness, neurodivergence, and behavioral health challenges. These roles shaped my understanding of systems, identity, and the ways social and environmental factors impact mental health. I am currently completing my clinical training under close supervision as part of my graduate education.

Therapeutic Approach

As a trauma survivor, I am deeply committed to supporting others in their healing journeys, particularly male survivors of abuse. While I welcome clients of all genders, races, ages, and sexualities, I hold a particular care for helping men navigate what it means to heal from trauma in a culture that often discourages emotional vulnerability.

As I am in the early stages of my clinical training, I currently focus on working with clients experiencing concerns such as depression, anxiety, and adjustment related stressors. Over time, I plan to expand my work to more explicitly focus on trauma healing. My developing clinical interests include:

  • Attachment theory

  • Mindfulness based approaches

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which I am currently learning to integrate into my practice

A Note on My Work

Beginning therapy can feel awkward or uncomfortable, especially at the start. While that initial discomfort is a normal part of the process, therapy often becomes an enlightening and enriching experience over time. My goal as a therapist is to partner with clients in working toward the life they want for themselves. I believe no one is too far lost, and that anyone who is willing to engage in the process can move toward greater meaning, stability, and self understanding.

I consider it both a sacred experience and a privilege to be trusted with someone’s story. I strive to offer a space grounded in compassion, curiosity, and openness, and I am honored to support clients wherever they are in their journey toward becoming.
