Kara Harrison, MA, LMFTA
Therapist
Hi, I'm Kara -- an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Drama Therapist candidate practicing under the clinical supervision of Vida Vasaitis, LMFT, RDT. My approach is collaborative and strength-based, with specializations in creative arts therapy, neurodiversity, trauma, and relationships. I especially love working with couples and families who are looking to deepen emotional connection and compassion within their relationships. I am an inclusive, affirming therapist -- LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, poly- and kink-affirming -- and equity is at the center of everything I do in the therapy room.
My Story
My path to becoming a therapist is rooted in the arts and a deep belief in community as a force of healing. After completing my BFA in Theatre Arts at Valdosta State University in 2016, I moved to Colorado where I worked as an educator, creator, and took on several behind-the-scenes roles in the fine arts field. The desire to keep learning about mental health, community, and the arts as a force of healing brought me to Washington state in 2020.
During graduate school I worked as a Childcare Counselor with the Associated Recreation Council, a Seattle-based nonprofit, and gained clinical experience as an intern therapist with the AUS Community Counseling and Psychology Clinic and Mercer Island Youth and Family Services from 2022 to 2024. I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Drama Therapy from Antioch University Seattle in 2024. Since then I have worked with couples and families in private practice and with Rhyther Aspiring Youth, a community mental health and support program for neurodivergent youth. I bring over a decade of experience working with families, teenagers, and children to this work -- and it is truly an honor to support my clients.

Clinical Background
My clinical experience spans work with couples, families, teenagers, and children across a range of settings and presenting concerns, including trauma, neurodiversity, relational dynamics, and identity-related issues. I have worked in nonprofit, community mental health, and private practice settings.
Therapeutic Approach
My work is flexible and dynamic -- because a truly client-centered approach recognizes that each person is singular and deserves care tailored to them. My clinical treatment is informed by:
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Narrative Therapy
-
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
-
Developmental approaches
Creative arts therapy is a tool I love bringing into the room with clients who want an innovative approach to healing -- one that centers imagination, play, and fun. Theatre is the marriage of all art forms: storytelling, movement, music, design, color, improvisation, and mindfulness. All of it is welcome in therapy with me.
A Note on My Work
Exploring relational dynamics involves a number of complexities and curiosities. I always approach treatment from a systemic perspective, considering the impact of relational, cultural, and familial dynamics within my clients' lives. I am an inclusive, affirming therapist -- LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, poly- and kink-affirming -- and equity is at the center of everything I do in the therapy room.
