Therapist

Hi, I'm Kara -- an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Drama Therapist candidate practicing under the clinical supervision of Vida Vasaitis, LMFT, RDT. My approach is collaborative and strength-based, with specializations in creative arts therapy, neurodiversity, trauma, and relationships. I especially love working with couples and families who are looking to deepen emotional connection and compassion within their relationships. I am an inclusive, affirming therapist -- LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, poly- and kink-affirming -- and equity is at the center of everything I do in the therapy room.

My Story

My path to becoming a therapist is rooted in the arts and a deep belief in community as a force of healing. I bring over a decade of experience working with families, teenagers, and children. After completing my BFA in Theatre Arts at Valdosta State University in 2016, I moved to Colorado where I worked as an educator, creator, and took on several behind-the-scenes roles in the fine arts field. The desire to keep learning about mental health, community, and the arts as a force of healing brought me to Washington state in 2020. I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Drama Therapy from Antioch University Seattle in 2024.

Clinical Background

I bring over a decade of experience working with families, teenagers, and children. After completing my BFA in Theatre Arts at Valdosta State University in 2016, I moved to Colorado where I worked as an educator, creator, and assumed several other behind-the-scenes roles in the field for many years. The desire to continue learning about mental health, community, and the arts as a force of healing led me to Washington state in 2020. I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Drama Therapy from Antioch University Seattle in 2024.

Exploring relational dynamics involves a number of complexities and curiosities, which is why I always approach treatment from a systemic perspective and consider the impact of relational, cultural, and familial customs within my clients’  lives. I have experience working with couples and families from diverse backgrounds, experiencing life transitions, and working through religious trauma and CPTSD.  I am an inclusive therapist and approach care with an equitable lens, with specialized trainings in LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and poly- and kink-affirming therapy. Diverseness of story and experience is always valued within my therapy space.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic work is flexible and dynamic, as a truly client-centered approach asserts that each client is singular and that they each deserve a unique approach to care. My clinical treatment is informed by ACT, Narrative, EFT, Attachment Theory, and the Developmental Model. Creative arts therapy is a tool that I enjoy utilizing with clients who are looking to delve into an innovative mental health treatment centering the imagination, play, and fun. Theatre is the marriage of all art forms. In theatre, there is storytelling, movement, music, design, color, improvisation, and mindfulness—all of which are welcome in therapy with me.
