Individual, Relationship and Family Therapy
What is therapy like at Shoreview Psychotherapy?
Therapy at Shoreview Psychotherapy is offered within a trauma-informed, relational framework that prioritizes safety, collaboration, and respect for each person's lived experience. Our clinicians work with adults navigating the impacts of complex trauma, PTSD, dissociation, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, religious trauma, and the often complicated process of healing.
Care here is thoughtful, flexible, and paced to you. We believe that real healing happens in relationship — which means we take the therapeutic relationship seriously. You will not be rushed, you will not be pushed into a protocol that doesn't fit, and you will never be asked to go somewhere before you are ready.
What we specialize in:
At Shoreview we work with a wide range of presentations, with complex trauma and dissociation at the center of our clinical focus. Whether you are carrying something you have never had words for, navigating a diagnosis that finally makes sense, or simply knowing that something needs to change — there is likely a place for you here. Below are the populations and concerns we work with most
Complex Trauma & PTSD
Many of our clients have experienced not one traumatic event but years of repeated, relational, or developmental trauma. We bring depth, patience, and genuine attunement to this work.
Poly, Kink & Sex-Positive Care
You will not be pathologized here and you will not have to educate your therapist. Our clinicians approach non-monogamy, kink, and sexuality outside the mainstream with genuine competence and respect.
Dissociative Disorders & DID
Shoreview has specialized expertise in dissociation, from mild symptoms to Dissociative Identity Disorder. If other providers have confused or dismissed you, you are in the right place.
Religious Trauma & Deconstruction
Leaving a high-control religion is isolating and identity-shaking. We approach this work with care and zero agenda about where your process should land.
LGBTQ+ Affirming Care
Our entire clinical team includes members of the LGBTQ+ community — affirming care here is not just a policy, it is personal. We offer specialized training in gender-affirming and trans-inclusive care.
Anxiety, Depression & More
Trauma is our specialty but we are generalists at heart. If you are unsure whether your concerns are a good fit, reach out — we are happy to help you figure it out.
Relationship & Family Therapy
We work with couples, partners, and families navigating conflict, trauma, and transition. We also offer family therapy that includes children, working within the family system rather than in individual child sessions.
How We Work
Our clinicians work intuitively and eclectically, drawing from a range of evidence-based and trauma-informed modalities tailored to each individual. We do not follow rigid protocols. We follow the person.
Approaches used at Shoreview include:
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is one of the most well-researched trauma therapies available. It helps the brain process and integrate overwhelming experiences that have become stuck.
Somatic & Body-Based Therapy
Trauma lives in the body, not just the mind. Somatic approaches work directly with nervous system responses, physical sensation, and embodied experience to support lasting healing.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A structured, evidence-based approach that explores the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Practical and effective for anxiety, depression, and a wide range of concerns.
Brainspotting
A powerful somatic approach that locates points in the visual field connected to stored trauma in the body. Deep, effective, and particularly well-suited to complex trauma and dissociation.
Drama Therapy & Experiential Art Therapy
Creative, embodied approaches that support healing through narrative, play, and expression. Particularly effective in family therapy and with clients who find traditional talk therapy limiting.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
A skills-based approach developed for emotional dysregulation that builds capacity in distress tolerance, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation.
Ego State Therapy
A relational approach to working with parts of self. Especially effective for complex trauma, dissociation, and DID, it supports internal communication, safety, and integration at a sustainable pace.
Psychodynamic Therapy
An approach rooted in understanding how early experiences and unconscious patterns shape current thoughts, feelings, and relationships. Insight-oriented and deeply relational.
Clinical Hypnosis
A collaborative, consent-based approach that uses focused attention and relaxation to access deeper states of awareness. Useful for trauma processing, anxiety, and somatic concerns.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
A values-based approach that builds psychological flexibility and helps clients live meaningfully even in the presence of difficult thoughts, feelings, or experiences.
Attachment-Based Therapy
Grounded in the science of how early relational bonds shape our sense of self and others. Helps clients understand and shift patterns that originated in early relationships.
Mindfulness-Informed Practice
Mindfulness principles are woven throughout clinical work at Shoreview, supporting present-moment awareness, nervous system regulation, and a more compassionate relationship with oneself.
For clients who are interested, clinicians may also integrate holistic and intuitive practices — including Reiki — in a grounded, client-centered, and clinically thoughtful way.
