EMDR Therapy, Delivered Online Across Washington State

Shoreview Psychotherapy provides EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy via secure telehealth to adults throughout Washington State — including Spokane, Seattle, Tacoma, and everywhere in between. EMDR is one of the most extensively researched treatments for PTSD, complex trauma, and dissociation, and it works effectively over video, from wherever you are.

What Is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain fully process traumatic or distressing memories that have gotten "stuck." Instead of just talking through what happened, EMDR uses guided bilateral stimulation — usually eye movements, taps, or tones — while you bring a memory to mind. Over time, this allows the memory to be stored differently: still real, but no longer charged with the same distress.

EMDR operates from a fairly simple starting point: your brain already has the capacity to heal itself. Most of the time, it processes daily experiences the way it's supposed to, filing them away as memories that no longer carry a charge. But sometimes — especially with overwhelming or traumatic experiences — that natural processing gets interrupted, and the memory gets "stuck" in a raw, unprocessed form. This is the foundation of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, the theory that underlies EMDR. AIP holds that the brain has an innate system for processing information toward mental health, similar to how the body has an innate system for physically healing a wound. EMDR doesn't try to erase or replace the memory — it helps your brain finish the processing it wasn't able to complete at the time, so the memory can be integrated in a way that feels resolved rather than raw.

EMDR is formally recognized as an effective treatment for PTSD by organizations including the American Psychological Association, the World Health Organization, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

EMDR can help with:

  • PTSD and complex trauma

  • Dissociation and Dissociative Identity Disorder

  • Religious trauma and religious deconstruction

  • Anxiety rooted in past experiences

  • Single-incident trauma (accidents, medical trauma, assault)

  • Attachment wounds and relational trauma

  • Depressive symptoms rooted in negative core beliefs ("I'm not enough," "I'm not worthy," "I'm not loveable")

  • A growing range of other conditions — the field has developed specialized EMDR protocols for OCD, specific phobias, eating disorders, chronic pain, and substance use, and we're able to apply many of these depending on your needs (we'll talk through fit during your consultation)

Does EMDR Work Over Telehealth?

Yes! Research over the past several years has consistently shown that EMDR delivered via video is as effective as in-person EMDR for most clients. At Shoreview, we use a secure, HIPAA-compliant online platform built specifically for EMDR, which offers therapist-guided eye movements, audio bilateral stimulation, and the option to use handheld "tappers" that provide tactile bilateral stimulation while being controlled remotely by your therapist. Self-tapping methods are also available for clients who prefer them.

Telehealth EMDR also means:

  • Sessions from home or any private space where you feel comfortable (we generally recommend a private room with access to a computer monitor rather than a phone, which allows for the full range of eye movement needed for EMDR — though we can adapt to make it work for your situation)

  • Access to trauma-specialized care regardless of where you live in Washington

  • No need to drive before or after your session — EMDR processing can be emotionally draining, and many clients find it easier to settle into comfy clothes and a familiar routine at home afterward, rather than navigating driving or traffic right after doing deep processing work

Who Provides EMDR at Shoreview?

EMDR is provided by three members of our clinical team:

  • Samantha Gibb, LICSW — Clinical Director. Trained in EMDR in 2017 and has been using it with clients since then.

  • Euryale Enitan, LMHCA — Trained in EMDR during her graduate internship at Northwest EMDR in 2024 and has been using it regularly since.

  • Shayne Jones, MSW — Completed EMDR basic training in 2026 and has been using it regularly with great success.

Samantha supervises both Euryale and Shayne's clinical work. While she is not an EMDRIA-approved consultant, her years of EMDR experience directly inform the supervision she provides.

What to Expect

At Shoreview Psychotherapy, we're relationship-based therapists at our core — EMDR is one tool we draw on, not a standalone program we run you through. For many clients, EMDR becomes part of a broader course of therapy that's grounded first in the therapeutic relationship. Some clients come to us specifically for EMDR, and we're glad to focus there, but we prioritize the relationship and your overall goals over any single modality.

Getting started: If you'd like to talk through fit before committing, we offer a free consultation. Many clients choose this route, but it isn't required — you're also welcome to go straight to an intake session if you already know you'd like to begin.

Preparation: Before any memory processing begins, we spend time building safety, developing internal resources, and understanding your history.

Processing: EMDR can be structured in a few different ways, depending on what fits your needs and schedule:

  • Weekly sessions — standard 50–60 minute sessions, woven into ongoing therapy at a pace that works for you.

  • Daily intensives — about 1 hour of processing several times a week over the course of several weeks.

  • Weekend intensives — a concentrated format done over 2–3 consecutive days, with roughly 6 hours of processing daily. (Note: insurance does not cover weekend intensives.)

Integration: Throughout the process, we connect the work back to your daily life and current relationships.

The number of sessions — and which format makes the most sense — varies by person and history. Some people notice shifts within several sessions; complex or long-standing trauma may take longer. We'll talk openly with you about pacing and options during your consultation or intake.

Insurance & Fees

Insurance: We are in-network with:

  • Regence

  • Premera

  • LifeWise

  • Anthem

  • Kaiser

  • Most BCBS plans

Self-pay rates: Rates vary by therapist:

  • Samantha Gibb, LICSW — $215/hour

  • Euryale Enitan, LMHCA — $160/hour

  • Shayne Jones, MSW — $160/hour

A limited number of sliding-scale spots may be available — ask about current availability during your consultation or intake.

Most insurance plans will cover multiple standard-length (50–55 minute) sessions per week, so daily intensives can be billed to insurance in most cases. Weekend intensives — or any session that runs longer than the standard 50–55 minutes — are not covered by insurance and are an out-of-pocket cost. Every plan is different, so we'll always double-check your specific benefits before getting started.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does insurance cover EMDR therapy? We're in-network with Regence, Premera, LifeWise, Anthem, and Kaiser, and standard EMDR sessions are typically covered the same as other therapy sessions under these plans. Self-pay rates are also available and vary by therapist; a limited number of sliding-scale spots may be available as well. Note that weekend intensives are not covered by insurance.

How many EMDR sessions will I need? This varies significantly by person and the nature of what you're processing. Many clients begin noticing meaningful shifts within a handful of sessions, while more complex or longstanding trauma may take longer. We'll discuss a realistic timeline together during your consultation or intake.

Can EMDR really be done online? Yes — EMDR delivered via telehealth has been shown to be effective for most clients, using adapted bilateral stimulation techniques designed for video sessions.

Do you see clients in person? Shoreview Psychotherapy is a telehealth-only practice, serving clients throughout Washington State via secure video sessions. We do not offer in-person appointments.

Is EMDR safe for complex trauma or dissociation? Yes, when paced appropriately. We prioritize safety and stabilization before any memory processing begins, and we adjust pacing for clients with more complex trauma histories or dissociative symptoms.

Do you serve my city? Because we provide care via telehealth, we're able to work with adults anywhere in Washington State — including Spokane, Walla Walla, Tri-cities, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Vancouver, Bellingham, and beyond.
