Sequoia S. Stagg (she/they)
Clinical Intern
Hello! My name is Sequoia Stagg, and I am Shoreview Psychotherapy's 2026-27 MSW Intern, studying at the University of Washington, Seattle. I practice under the clinical supervision of Samantha Gibb, LICSW (license #LW61071809).
I would describe my therapeutic approach as grounded in curiosity, empathy, and validation, with a special emphasis on Motivational Interviewing, CBT & cognitive restructuring, DBT and mindfulness practice, and memory reconsolidation and trauma processing skills. I especially love working with young adults ages 21+, LGBTQ+ clients, veterans, and clients who want to work on alleviating stress through goal setting skills.
As a clinician who identifies as neurodivergent with ADHD and Major Depressive Disorder, as well as physically disabled, my ultimate aim above all is to provide inclusive care to individuals that have historically been unable to access adequate mental health care from providers with a shared identity.
My Story
After completing my bachelor's degree, as well as a part-time community-based internship working as a liaison between the UW and a local Seattle non-profit organization named Pongo Poetry Project, I decided to pursue a career working in community mental health. I am now a part-time graduate student at the University of Washington School of Social Work, in my final year working toward my Master's of Social Work degree, which I expect to receive in August 2027.
Education

Master of Social Work (in progress), University of Washington School of Social Work, expected August 2027
Clinical Background
From 2022 to today, I have worked in various community mental health settings throughout Seattle, with my primary concentration being housing case management, offering a myriad of resources for those who are facing homelessness or housing insecurity after being recently hospitalized, jailed, or evicted. In these transitional and supportive housing settings, the foundation of my work revolved around understanding each person's unique needs surrounding housing support and financial aid, as well as coordinating care so they could get connected to therapy for the first time or to greater community-based resources for their mental health, including group outings, AA meetings, and substance use services.
Therapeutic Approach
My clinical orientation centers around collaborative, strengths-based care, with an emphasis on validating a client's experience and affirming that they are the expert on their care, and that I can be a supportive measure in their process toward recovery. This process starts with building a foundation of rapport, where I strive to foster a supportive environment with room for curiosity, honesty, humility, and humor.
I have enjoyed working with clients who may feel reluctant to process triggers in their environment but who respond well to Motivational Interviewing and positive reinforcement. Sessions with me may include Motivational Interviewing, CBT and cognitive restructuring, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy exercises, emotional regulation and mindfulness exercises, deep breathing and coping skills, and safety planning.
A Note on My Work
As an intern, I provide therapy under the supervision and license of Samantha Gibb, LICSW, Clinical Director of Shoreview Psychotherapy, who oversees all of my clinical work. I welcome active dialogue with me surrounding what you are looking for in a therapist, and discussing how an intern can work toward meeting those needs while still being in training.
